21 Day Challenge – Day 6

imageKimberly Snyder’s Bright Green Smoothie is just that. It is all fruit and veggie and light and refreshing. The celery is potent but not overpowering.

Today I weighed in 2.8 pounds below my starting weight.

21 Day Challenge – Day 4

Today was supposed to be acai berry, strawberry, banana smoothie. imageI couldn’t find any acai berry juice so I replaced it with beets and kale. The smoothie tasted great and looked pretty. I prepared a similar smoothie for lunch because my son wanted one.  I think he is seeing us enjoy them so much that he is more willing to eat them.  He sees me put the kale into the Vitamix, but cannot believe he isn’t able to taste it.  I ran out of energy pretty quickly after lunch.  Two smoothies per day is something I’m not quite ready for yet or perhaps I need to supplement a small snack between them.

My morning weigh in was .8 pounds below my starting weight. I did get something very exciting done today.  I replaced the battery on my Cateye Bike meter.  I love riding my bike. Unfortunately I don’t like riding around town because of the traffic.  I will go on long rides but morning rides before work must happen indoors on a bike trainer.  While my Cateye was out of batteries, I was not motivated to ride.  I need to know how far and how fast I’m riding for motivation.  Replacing the battery took much longer than it could have.  First, I thought I would have to drive my bike into the bike shop and pay someone to replace it because I thought it was broken.  When I realized it was probably just the battery, it still took me time to take it apart and figure out what kind of battery it took.  After that, I went to Batteries + Bulbs, but it was closed.  Then I went to Best Buy and they don’t carry that specific battery.  The helper at Best Buy was really nice. She looked it up and told me I could get it at Amazon for $4.  It took some time for me to remember to order it, but when I did, it was actually 5 batteries for $4.  It also came with free shipping!  After a few days, the batteries finally arrived in the mail today. Tomorrow morning I plan to ride my bike on the trainer.

21 Day Challenge – Day 2

Pineapple Ice Cream Green Smoothie Day – Yum! (Doesn’t actually contain ice cream)

Today the drink did taste a lot like ice cream. The recipe had many interesting ingredients, nuts, dates, coconut, kale, pineapple and a little vanilla protein powder. I drank the smoothie around 7:30. I was very hungry at 10:00, but managed to distract myself with work.

At noon, I had a beet, spinach, carrot and apple smoothie. This kept me full until 5:00. I am not on a cleanse or something extreme, but when I tried to find something for lunch I realized I had purchased too many fruits and veggies.

I am full of energy again tonight. So far my goal to have more energy seems to be working. If I lose any weight during these 21 days, it will be a side benefit. I have 15 extra pounds to lose to get back to my healthy BMI. After day one I was up two pounds. I credit that to adding too much soy salt to my veggie/meat stir fry at the local Mongolian Grill.

21 Day Challenge – Day 1

Today is day number one for the Blender Babes 21 Day Smoothie Challenge. I am taking this challenge with my husband. He is willing to participate if I make the smoothies. I am not doing this for weight loss. I want to  be more healthy and energized. So far I did work all day and still had energy to plant seedlings out in the garden…and all the dishes are done. This is not normal to have energy after work!

Their picture appeared much more red from the grapes. The Vitamix pulverized all of the spinach and green won over my smoothie in appearance. Luckily, the banana flavor won the taste.

We just purchased the Vitamix yesterday and already we are impressed. Previously we used Jack Lalane’s Juicer. The drinks tasted fine but left us hungry. So far the Vitamix smoothies have been satisfying until lunch. Even my husband was satisfied. The biggest difference is the fiber content.
